Dracula: Mediaeval History & Legend

DAY 1

Bucharest - Târgovişte - Curtea de Argeş
(215 km)

Departure from Hotel Bulevard / Bucharest in the morning (around 9 a.m.) Sightseeing tour of Bucharest (including the “Old Court” former residence of Vlad the Impaler, the first to establish the court of the princes of Wallachia in the city of Bucharest). Continue to Curtea de Argeş – supper & accommodation.

DAY 2

Curtea de Argeş – Bran – Miercurea Ciuc
(235 km)

Breakfast and departure through a beautiful route, Rucar-Bran. Visit to the Bran Castle (XIV century) connected to the life of Vlad Ţepeş (the Impaler). We enter in the historical province of Transilvania, in the land of the legends. Supper & accommodation in Miercurea Ciuc.

DAY 3

Miercurea Ciuc – Lacu Roşu – Câmpulung Moldovenesc - Borgo Pass
(290 km)

Breakfast and departure through the Bicaz Gorges, an impressive view, to Câmpulung Moldovenesc or to Paso Borgo/ Hotel Dracula (the site of the action of the novel Count Dracula by Bram Stoker). Supper & accommodation.

DAY 4

Câmpulung Moldovenesc – Bistriţa – Sighişoara
(160 km)

After breakfast, we follow the legend of Dracula and visit the town of Bistriţa which is still full of medieval buildings. We continue through Targu Mures. Supper & accommodation in Sighişoara/Danes/Albesti.

DAY 5

Sighişoara – Sinaia – Târgovişte
(220 km)

After breakfast, visit of the medieval city of Sighişoara (the Fortress) including the house where Vlad Ţepeş was born (situated in the heart of the old town, included in patrimonies of UNESCO).

The Many Castles of Prince Vlad III, Dracula

He roamed the countryside in his reign of terror.

Dracula was from Saxon bloodline according to the Bram Stoker Novel, but from Romanian stock if you choose Prince Vlad Ţepeş as the most likely real-life equivalent.

Regardless of the beliefs in the power of this mythical figure over the dead and the undead, Romania has all the spooky castles and convincingly menacing landscapes to fill your head (and camera) with all the ghostly images you can bear!
