Union Square

Let’s first take a stroll through the wonderful town of Timişoara, starting with the vibrant heart of the town, Union Square (Piaţa Unirii).   

Union Square is not a square at all, in fact it is circular, like a big round table ringed with governmental and spiritual monuments, from the Trinity Scupture where the curative waters of the fountain slakes the thirst of the dusty traveller.     

Delight in the surrounding sights like the Baroque Palace; the Catholic Cathedral; the Serbian Orthodox Vicarage; the Dicasteral Palace, currently law courts; the Lutheran church, formerly the Trumpeter hotel; with facades harkening the castles of yore!  

The Dicasteral Palace

Constructed between the years of 1850 and 1854 to rather grandiose dimensions, the legend says that there are as many windows as days of the year!

From an architectural standpoint like many other Timişoran buildings, the palace is a copy of the Strozzi Palace in Florence.

The Dome

As soon as you see it, you are irrevocably overwhelmed with gratification by the beauty and grandeur of this fine monument.

The dome has a distinct acoustic quality in which you can frequently hear organ concerts.  

Millenium Dome

Possibly the most beautiful Christian church in the Banatian capital, it represents a spiritual moment which remains in the soul of each tourist who sets foot on Timişoara’s streets.  

 Constructed at the beginning of 1896, the church has two steeples with a height of 65 metres, and the central cupola going up 45 metres.   Read More about Timişoara Here!

The Lloyd, Dauerbach, Loffler & Merbl Palaces

True architectural pearls of an incredible sturdiness. 

In 1912, the construction began on the Lloyd palace until 1913, when the namesake Loffler palace was built. 

Even at the beginning, their ground floor areas were hosts to cafes, restaurants, pharmacies, which are still functioning to the present day, showing once again how Timişoara gracefully blends function with pleasing form.
